Plum Infused Old Fashioned

Plum Infused Old Fashioned

I’m on a plum wave, yo. I feel the window of opportunity with plums is quite narrow, so we gotta pack as many goodies as possible while they last. Also, plums happen to be very handsome and photograph so well (I mean, who am I kidding, I probably just come up with recipe so that I can style them haha).

I already did a couple desserts with plums in them (one more coming next week!), but for this one I decided to make it a cocktail, because, booze. I made one classic old fashioned and one with plums, roasted nonetheless (yep, I’ve also been on a roasting bender!). Roasting plums makes them EXTRA sweet and super rich and yummy. That flavour gets infused into whiskey (or bourbon if you want). It’s good enough to add an awesome layer of flavour, but not too overpowering to take over the whole thing.

I made both cocktails for the guys of Urban Outfitters (’cause they like their booze to be plummy, too!). You can head over to their blog for the full recipe. Side note: how rad are those diamond cocktail glasses? If I could only wear them as a ring (it wouldn’t be weird, would it?).

I love these photos. And I love plums, although I’m not much of a whisky drinker. Perhaps it’s time to begin! Maybe I’ll use a dry white wine instead of whisky? What do you think?

    Thanks for the inspiration.

Oh, and if you do get the diamond ring, I’d love to see it. Best, D

      Hi Dena!

I think that pairing may be a bit odd and the liquid will turn cloudy. Whiskey or bourbon are very dark so you can’t notice when the plum infuses the liquid, but with wine, it may look muddy. I’d recommend using something else like dark rum too. Hope you enjoy it!

I dare you to wear it as a ring, I mean – if you just had it in your hands 24/7 (with plum booze) then it’s basically a ring, no? GO. DO IT.

HAHA, right?! I’m totally going to wear it as a necklace though, a little bit of a flinstones feel but more booze :P

Hi Nicky! The glasses are from urban outfitters but I’m sure you can find them online too. They’re diamond whiskey glasses.
