wire sculptures by Ruth Asawa

Ruth Asawa is an American artist who creates incredible sculptures with wire. Ruth learned early in her life to make the most out of adversity – during World War II when she was only 16, Ruth and her family were interned along with thousands of others – losing her freedom and anything else tied to it. She didn’t let this experience add a bitter shade to her life – she instead used it to her advantage to develop her talent and love for the arts  – becoming an internationally known artist and creative crusader.

Have you seen Ruth in pictures? she has such a serene and candid expression – same feelings that are transmitted through her sculptures.

So here you have it, art as a testament to positivity! Ruth’s work is a reminder that no matter how dark a situation gets we can turn it around and use it as motivation to achieve outstanding things. We can be a guiding light helping others to find their path. Use your past experiences as a booster for your creativity and let them enlighten your future.

Enjoy!

Her sculptures are really so lovely. I make sure to enjoy them every time I’m in the De Young Museum in SF (They’re by the elevator to the observation tower) The wire forms are beautiful, but what makes the installation doubly so are the shadows cast by them on the adjacent walls, and floor.
