delightfully delicate cut outs by Claire Brewster

image: lampshade by umbu on Etsy

Have you noticed all the incredible recycled art that has been popping out lately? It’s crazy!

On that topic – I want to show you something rather fantastic; so delicate, so intricate, so beautiful – it just makes me tingle. I am talking about the work of London-based artist and cutting master: Claire Brewster.

Claire uses old maps and atlases to create detailed cut outs of nature-inspired subjects; flora and fauna are her allies in this creative journey. The end result is pretty amazing and the shadows produced by different shapes in her pieces are worthy of a fairy tale.

I selected just a few images for this post but you can enjoy many more on her site. Also, if you are kind enough to send me  ₤500 so I can purchase one of her creations – that’d greatly appreciated. You’re such a good friend!

This is a truly fantastic blog, as well as great ( and shall I say quirky) art. And the commentary is awesome too. I could spend a weekend looking around! I probably will!

    These are so delicate! Lovely.
I’ve seen sculptures carved from books before, and some amazing portraits constructed from amps, but nothing like this. Thanks for posting them!

I love recycled art so much I do it myself! I go on walk all the time and find objects I want to paint or otherwise modify and turn them into a piece of art. Otherwise I’ll paint walls as well :)

oh my goodness – that’s gorgeous! I use junk mail for my own little creations too, and have been known to toss in an old atlas or two. Thanks for introducing Claire’s fabulous work – so inspiring!
