costumes for art lovers: La Catrina

costumes for art lovers

ART. Krisztianna (Photo by Chris Rigg Photography) | ACCESSORIES. floral headband, floral brooch, mac cosmetics, black&white dress, chanel polish, skull earrings, shoes

Another Mexican classic (obviously I have a soft spot for it). La Catrina – a Dia de Muertos character that represents death and beauty. You see, in my country we celebrate death, we see it as a transition and not as the “end of life”. We make fun of it, we embrace it and we are taught to not be afraid as it is a natural and inevitable process that will ultimately take you to a better place (sounds easy, right?).

La Catrina – a staple of this celebration – has been a traditional icon for ages. Folk art and ancient tales coming together for this costume. What else could you ask for?
