a colourful genius – Takashi Iwasaki

art by Takashi Iwasaki

Friends, I have a confession to make – I am having severe jealousy attacks from staring at Takashi Iwasaki’s work. I know, jealousy isn’t a good feeling to have, but as mentioned by The Jealous Curator (one of my favorite blogs) “I once heard someone say that when jealousy is kept inside it becomes toxic, but as soon as it’s said out loud, it transforms into admiration” – there you go, I said it out loud, I am toxin-free!

I see more and more embroidery works popping out everywhere, but Takashi’s stand apart from the rest – his extremely skillful hands (my god! Have you seen the details? Japanese talent at its finest!) stitch the most colourful creations of them all. It’s a little bit of an Alice in Wonderland journey – the thread and needle edition.

Mr. Iwasaki’s talent doesn’t stop there; he also has an amazing variety of drawings, collages, sculptures and prints that are equally worthy of a standing ovation.

Mr. Iwasaki – I really hope your work comes to Vancouver at some point – until that day I’ll rub my embroidery needle like the monks rub Buddha’s belly to get their wishes granted.

Are any of you – or someone you know – acquainted with the art of embroidery?

Happy Monday!

I was at a gallery on the North Shore (Oahu, Hawaii) a few month ago that had these Japanese embroidery pieces i just got so lost in… once you start focusing on the detail, it’s so easy to do.

but these are so different than anything i’ve ever seen. the COLORS! my goodness, i love them.

i have no personal familiarity with embroidery at all, just an intense admiration for such skill and prettiness.

    great post!

I agree with you Rose, I am not familiar with embroidery at all, I tried it once and it was extremely hard! So I have such admiration for people that do it AND for art like this one. Thanks for visiting!
